SOAR

More good news!

The Council for Lexington, Kentucky has decided to move the proposed law for Anti-Chaining in Lexington to the service committee!!!! YAY!!!

What this means- A group is formed to give opinions about the proposed law and ways to change it, or better it. For instance-If the law states that you can chain your dog as long as you are with them.....does that mean- "If you can see them through a window then you are with them?" This committee will work out the details. Great news because this shows that the council DOES want to get something into law!! I love animals and so does Lexington Pink!

SOAR's web site is up! Check it out to stay updated. Speak Out and Rescue!!!!

Many things to update about so this post is going to be random!

1.) I hope everyone had a GREAT Thanksgiving! I ran around like crazy as I had three groups of family to visit and a close relative that blessed us with a baby boy the night before Thanksgiving! He is adorable...happy and healthy!!

2.) I know that most of us have seen The Animal Rescue Site, but for those that haven't please click on the icon to the left. It's free and every time you click on the site you help save animals!

3.) I have currently started helping a group called SOAR, based out of Kentucky. We are in the process of trying to get an anti-chaining law passed in Lexington. There are tons of details and I will post them as the site for the group is finished. Our goal is to help the animals that are chained for life in our community. Understanding that there are many things to consider SOAR has started to lobby for the law with local council in and around Lexington. I will try to keep you updated! Wish us luck!

4.)It was just brought to my attention that Libby Lu is going out of business. GREAT deals! I was there today and everything was 50% off. These deals were just too good to keep them to myself. Enjoy!

Black Patch Cigar Co.

Another spotlight on success in Lexington, KY

Introducing the Black Patch Cigar Co.

Now...I don't smoke cigars, but I know plenty of people who do. At Lexington Pink, we strive to bring you unique gifts and I feel that Black Patch will provide the men in your life something to enjoy, and talk about.

Smoke magazine recently rated the Black Patch Reserve a 9.1. ...Translation for us girls...It's really good:) The producer of Black Patch is right here in Lexington, KY.

Meet Eric McAnallen. Eric has a Biology degree from the University of Kentucky, but his knowledge with tobacco dates back to 1988 when his father-in-law (who raised tobacco for 36 years) began to teach him harvesting and farming techniques from his farm in Caldwell County Kentucky. Eric has been experimenting since 1998 with his own original seed varieties and has succeeded in more ways than one. Currently he is raising 3 different varieties of seed.

Eric currently raises his broadleaf in Western Kentucky and the Dominican Republic, with a family that has been growing tobacco for a documented 109 years.

Please see below for more information....Please note that I took the information below directly from his web site. For us ladies I felt this was the easiest article to get to know Eric!

Black Patch Cigar Co: Who We Are

An independent spirit and rugged individualism runs through the area today and colors the way we approach the business of making premium cigars for your pleasure. We grow and select only the finest Broadleaf Tobacco from the dark soils of the Black Patch region of Kentucky to create a unique offering of premium Hand Made cigars.

After each summer harvest the Black Patch leaf is air cured for 4-5 months. Afterwards, we export the tobacco to the Caribbean where it rests and ages in optimum humidity and temperature for a minimum of two years. Our cigars are Hand Made in the Dominican Republic by expert rollers whose skills are honed through generations of the best cigar-making tradition.

The construction of Black Patch cigars consists of master blending utilizing Kentucky / USA Broadleaf and tobacco leaf from selected soils on the globe. Most notably, Dominican Republic raised varieties from Olor seed, and Piloto Cubano seed. The blends of filler and wrapper are consistent and chosen for demanding aficionados. We also allow ample time for the finished cigars to age gracefully until deemed worthy for packaging.

Black Patch Cigar Co. takes great pride in the fact that our cigars are constructed of 100% “natural tobacco”. We do not use or add reconstituted tobacco filler, artificial flavorings or chemically “enhanced” additives. The tobacco blends and wrapper used before production is reduced to its most natural vegetative state with time and “Old World” customs. The independent spirit of the Black Patch lives in every cigar we make. Each time you choose a Black Patch Cigar, you’re assured a fine experience from the fertile fields of Kentucky /USA and the World.

The Love Of My Life

The day I met Snuggles, I knew we were soul mates. We had an instant bond that has only grown over the years. Snuggles has been my companion for the past 5 years. He moved with me from KY to Charleston, SC in 2004 and then back to KY in 2006 without ever complaining. As long as he is with me, he is up for doing whatever. I couldn't ask for a better dog. He doesn't potty in the house and has never chewed up anything and he is my best friend.

I do have a confession: I am a push-over when it comes to Snuggles. I do not know how to say "no" to him. Snuggles, being the genius that he is, is very well aware of this fact. He is actually the boss in the relationship. When Stephanie or I are doing something that does not please him, he tells us about it by barking and growling excessively at us. He also has severe separation anxiety. I have to throw a treat in the opposite direction of the door when I am leaving or else I get attacked by this 4 lb ball of fur, and trust me, it is not pretty. I have also never informed him that he is only 4 lbs. Because of this fact, he thinks he is a pit bull and when we go on our walks, he likes to inform any and all passing canines that he is in fact the biggest and baddest dog around. I can not bring myself to tell him any different.

We lived next door to another little poodle named Dozer. He was actually a little bit smaller than Snuggles (I didn't think it was possible either). He and Snuggles tolerated each other, at best. Dozer used to come over and come inside our house every once in a while. We think he did this to annoy Snuggles. We have not lived next to Dozer for over a year now but I can still ask Snuggles where Dozer is and he looks at the door and growls. Did I mention he was a genius? In the spirit of Halloween, I have posted of picture of Snuggles in his very appropriate Halloween costume as a devil.

Fabulous Hats inc.

I wanted to tell everyone a little bit about a local designer here in Lexington, Kentucky. In our town we live and breathe two things (at least for the most part)...Kentucky Basketball (now football) and Horses....

The usual attire for a day at the races is a spectacular dress, and a fabulous hat! I'm sure you have seen the women across the country dressed up for the races.

Here in Lexington we have our own little secret, Ms. Anne Sawyer. Anne has been designing hats since she was just a young girl. With the help of a degree in Management and Economics, from Northwood University in 1991, and her extreme love for hats, she created her own line, and her own store, Fabulous Hats inc.

Anne specializes in Fabulous Hats, and I don't mean the usual hats you see at the mall. She has been featured on the NBC Today Show, in People Magazine, and has been fortunate enough to work with a list of stars! Some of her clients include Mrs. Barbara Bush, Mrs. Laura Bush and even Jessica Simpson just to mention a few.

You can find Fabulous Hats inc. by Anne Sawyer, right here in Lexington, at the Marriot Griffin Gate Resort. On a personal note...Anne is a great mother, and a great friend.

If you are in need of a special hat, look no further, you found your source. Not only is she the first retailer to sell hats on the grounds of Churchill Downs and the "Official Hat Designer for the Kentucky Derby Festival", but she is highly creative and works with individual needs to make sure the hat she designs for you, fits, so that you look and feel spectacular!
